Reporting, blocking, or muting someone

What each tool does, and when to reach for it.

Tenseats works because people show up and treat each other well, and most of the time that is exactly what happens. When it doesn't, here is what each tool actually does and when to reach for it.

Mute

Mute turns off notifications from one conversation. The other person can still send messages, you just won't be pinged every time. Good for a conversation that has run its course but doesn't need to be shut down entirely.

Block

Block is heavier. Once you block someone, they can't start a new conversation with you or send another message into an existing one. Blocking also removes any follow connection in both directions and prevents re-following while the block is in place. Use it when muting isn't enough, someone won't stop reaching out, or you'd rather the door stayed closed. You can undo a block anytime from Settings, under Blocked Accounts.

Report

Report flags an account or a specific message for our team to look at. It doesn't do anything visible on your end right away (no automatic block, no notice to the other person), but it puts the account on our radar. You can report from a person's profile, from a message itself, or from the conversation menu.

What happens after a report

A report doesn't equal a strike by itself. Someone on our team reviews it first, every time. It is confirmed violations that add up to a strike, not the raw number of reports filed. See the Community Guidelines for what counts, and account strikes and pauses for what a confirmed one costs.
